What Students Say to Parents About...
ACING THE COLLEGE APPLICATIONS
Help out with our essays for our applications, in terms of editing for
grammar and clarity, but don't try to write it for us. Resist the urge to 'help' us too much on our applications. This is our project and our chance to show the university who WE are. If you try to help too much, even though your intentions are good, we end up feeling like we're not good enough.
--Sophomore
There's no way around planning well and starting early. As an intern at a college prep center, I have read through quite a few college applications, and believe me: it is not hard to tell who really wants to go to college and who finished their applications at the last minute. Doing college applications isn't much different from doing your taxes in the sense that you have to make sure that you carefully prepare everything that should be there. Just like you don't want to be audited, you don't want to be rejected - or worse, waitlisted. Spend the time, and reap the results.
