Tackling Your High School Term Paper - Organize Your Arguments Carefully


		ORGANIZE YOUR ARGUMENTS CAREFULLY Give some thought to the order in which you present the arguments supporting your thesis statement. It makes a difference. Generally, we remember the things we read first and last better than those we read in the middle. So you might want to put your stronger arguments as the first and last in your term paper. Depending on the type of paper you�re writing, there are other considerations. For example, if you�re comparing and contrasting two issues or people you could structure your paper in two ways. One would be to write about the first issue in full, including all of the points of comparison and contrast, and then write about the second issue or person. Another way would be to compare and contrast the two issues side by side, taking one characteristic and writing about how it�s presented in each of the two. You�re in control of how you structure your paper, but just remember that there are many ways to do it and if one doesn�t seem to work, you can find another. �You should construct your term paper to resemble a mathematical proof: Present your argument, A, then support A with B, which leads to C. Maintain and emphasize C with D.
